Reign of the Warlock, released 11 February 2026 at $24.99, is the first paid expansion for Diablo II: Resurrected — and its headline addition, the Warlock, is the first new playable class in 25 years. For readers of a save-editing site it matters twice over: it changes what your account holds (more stash, more character slots), and it changed the save file format underneath every editor. This guide covers both, honestly.
What the DLC adds
- The Warlock class — a new, eighth playable class, the first new class in 25 years.
- +2 stash tabs — two additional shared stash tabs for your account.
- +2 character slots — two additional character slots, directly relevant if you keep multiple edited and unedited characters side by side.
- Endgame changes — the expansion also overhauled parts of the endgame alongside the new class and storage.
- A Diablo IV cross-reward — the Warlock DLC bundles a Diablo IV pet and a back trophy, so D2R players who also play Diablo IV receive a cosmetic reward there as well.
The DLC requires the base game. It is not a standalone release. If you do not own Diablo II: Resurrected yet, the bundle below is usually the cleaner purchase.
What it costs: DLC, Infernal Edition, Game Pass
- Reign of the Warlock DLC — $24.99 (requires the base game).
- Infernal Edition — $39.99: the base game plus Lord of Destruction content plus the Warlock DLC in one purchase. This edition launched on Steam in February 2026, when D2R arrived on Steam for the first time.
- Game Pass: D2R joined Game Pass (Ultimate, Premium and PC Game Pass) on 12 February 2026 — but only the base game is included. The Warlock DLC is not part of Game Pass, so subscribers who want the Warlock still buy the DLC separately.
Official prices, the Steam and Battle.net options, discount key stores (Loaded and Green Man Gaming) and an honest marketplace note are compared, channel by channel, on our buying guide: prices and where to buy Diablo II: Resurrected. Discount-store offers and prices are checked on the store itself — we never promise a specific D2R price on a key store.
What it means for save editing
The Warlock update moved Diablo II save files to format versions 100–105, adding new structures — including the Chronicle, a DemonSection (v103) and a new 833-byte header (v104). Editors written for the earlier formats have never seen those structures. Blizzard has never published an official patch-to-format mapping, so precise conversion tables elsewhere should be treated as guesswork.
The honest editor status: D2CE (final release 2.22, April 2023, author-tested up to D2R PTR 2.6), the dschu012 editor, Hero Editor and GoMule have no verifiable support for Patch 3.x or Warlock saves. Owning the DLC does not change that, and no Warlock character can currently be edited with D2CE. The full editor-by-editor breakdown lives on the Patch 3.x & Warlock compatibility status page.
What still holds: back up your save folder before any edit, keep your pre-DLC backups (they are the saves the established editors were built for), and treat any download calling itself a “2026 edition” of a classic editor with suspicion — no such official release exists.
