D2R Save Editing Guides

Everything on this site is organised around one workflow: find your save file, back it up, edit it with the right tool for your game version, and fix things when they go wrong. Start with the cluster that matches what you are trying to do.

Before You Edit Anything

Back up your save folder before you edit

Every guide on this site starts from the same rule: copy your Saved Games\Diablo II Resurrected folder somewhere safe before changing a single value. D2CE can keep a .bak copy per character (Options → Backup Character Before Save), and for hands-off, versioned backups of the whole folder, a cloud backup service such as pCloud works well — see our backup walkthrough. D2CE’s final release is from April 2023 and was author-tested up to D2R PTR 2.6. The current game (Patch 3.x with the Warlock DLC) writes a newer save format. Nothing on this site will tell you a legacy tool supports the current patch when it does not — the compatibility status page is kept current instead.
